I am currently on holidays and it’s completely KILLING me that I can not do videos – I would actually love to present a video on this topic to best explain myself, long story short – I transferred my IMac to my MacBook and didn’t check all my programs were running correctly and have come away without the software to fix my issues – so am just taking it as a sign to back off a little and enjoy my holidays!

On topic – Butterfly Profits – How to turn your J.O.B in to Online Residual Income – I say J.O.B as I refer to a job as Just Over Broke – aint that the truth – even if you’re Self Employed – if you don’t go to work the money stops! Ahk I know the feeling too well! So today’s article is for you – the EXPERT of their field wanting to build some security in to their business. Many refer to this as ‘passive’ income – however, I would like to debunk this, as there is very little that is passive within at least the first year or 2 of setting up your online business model. I believe over time you can make it reasonably passive – once you know what you need to get done you can pay people to do it for you; however if you are marketing YOU as an ‘expert’ in your particular field – you will and should keep doing videos, webinar’s, articles etc to keep the momentum up – continue to grow in your niche.

Alternatively, if you have enough other people peddling your wares for you – you will be able to kick back and just enjoy the sales- well at least for a little while!

Why BUTTERFLY? Because if you picture you as the body, you’re the expert – the body of the butterfly – then out from you stems an abundance of income opportunities. Have you heard of the “Butterfly Effect”? In a nutshell, it’s said that the flutter of a butterflies wings can change the weather on the other side of the planet through frequency, you can do this by leveraging your knowledge and unleashing it on the world! Think of the wings expanding, these are your products, starting small and growing out.

How to go From Zero to Hero

In today’s article, I am going to use one of my clients ‘Emma’ as a case study. Emma is a qualified nurse whom specializes in a specialty field with children. She runs a business where the primary income is derived from consulting. Emma visits people’s homes and is hands on.

When I met Emma she was crazy busy and LOVING it, she is SO passionate about what it is she does – we got to talking about formally structuring a residual income stream when she was on the verge of going on holidays -as she is a ‘consultant’ when she stops work, there’s no more money – when I asked her how she would feel about turning her knowledge in to information products to put a back end income stream in to her business she jumped at the chance. Not only will she be able to increase her income with less output on her behalf (because seriously – she really doesn’t actually have much more time to give) – she will be able to help and reach so many more people – which is what really floats her boat!

My Residual Income Blue Print

Firstly, I am branding Emma and positioning her as an ‘expert’ in her field. This is her own name website – she already has a static website for the business – which is already getting quite a lot of traffic. But as we will be effectively turning her in to an author it will be highly beneficial that people can find HER and look at who she is. So for this purpose you buy a domain name of yourname.com

This is where you put your information – having this site in place will also give Emma the opportunity to diversify in the future if she chooses to expand what it is she does.

Secondly, I start her a blog which is keyword orientated, this way we will work on getting her blog ranked at the top of google for relevant search terms, for example – if we looked at the term ‘Interior Design’ this is WAY too competitive – so we would look for an alternate with say ‘home decorating’ for example – there is a search volume of 165,000 searches per month – which is high, but there is also a very high competition with over 2 million competing pages – so we would look for something a little less competitive, say “home decorating ideas” this has over 30,000 searches per month and only 300,000 competing pages, however it is still reasonably competitive, BUT I believe with the RIGHT domain name, the RIGHT SEO, it would be possible to rank a blog page 1 for this search term – so we would create a blog targeted at this search term – are you with me? I am using the free google keyword tool to do these searches.

A blog is used in place of a static website, with the point being of adding fresh articles frequently, the search engines LOVE blogs because they have new content continuously. The blog is a website for all intended purposes – it is just far more powerful then the old fashioned websites.

Thirdly, we would incorporate a give away from the blog using aweber – this is where we would begin to build a database of WARM, TARGETED potential leads / customers – we would give away some phenomenal information and begin to build our database.

Fourth, we would have already structured a plan for a product funnel and have started work on it whilst everything else is going on.

Fifth, we would be setting up an affiliate centre OR setting products up in Clickbank – this way we would use the principle of LEVERAGE to have other people signed up to sell her stuff – a speedy way to grow your business!

From here on in, it would be a matter of shameless self promotion including video marketing, article marketing, free publicity appearances etc etc etc – there is A LOT involved but there is also a bright shiny pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! It’s not for the feint hearted – but I love it – it’s SO MUCH FUN! Taking something from nothing – just an idea, someone from ZERO and turning them in to a niche hero is phenomenal!

    Hi Kat,
    great post. You stirred me on the SEO. For 2 million or less, even more, as you grow into it, 1st page is easy. Between writing a good post, with strong purposeful copywriting, some social media syndication and complimentary article marketing, just that alone, traffic will flow. Of course, articles that are different in content, but same thought, with use of same or longtail keywords or phrases, pointed back to the main post can keep the post ranking as well.

    But, if no funnel in place, it is just traffic.

    You outlined some great points and direction, awesome!

      lol, well we all have our tactics! I would usually allow 3 months to get a site top ranked to make sure it doesn’t get google slapped…. obviosuly the more links thrown at it will increase it’s ranking but it can’t be done too quickly. I just stopped by your blog, awesome articles!
